IBM System Storage Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

Only Report Status on Relevant Paths from Storage Systems Panel

In our environment, we have IP to z/OS connectivity enabled. As such, we have ZOS:NATIVE connections and IP to z/OS connections to other LPARs. For the ZOS:NATIVE connections, it is not possible for the Standby server to connect via FICON to the same DS8950s as the Active server since they are in different data centers. Therefore, in the Storage Systems panel, we always see Degraded under the Remote Status for the DS8950s that are connected in the local data center but can't be connected in the remote data center. We would like this Degraded status to not be shown if there is other valid connectivity to the Storage Systems (via HMC and/or IP to z, etc).

Furthermore, when we look into the Connections tab on the Storage Systems panel, we see z/OS Device Path Connection Degraded for ZOS:NATIVE and some of the IP to z/OS connections. This is also currently working as designed but this is related to a case we opened where CSM and IOS support has stated that these are related to LSSes that we do not have any copysets on and are not relevant for our environment. We would like these extraneous LSS paths to be ignored and only report on relevant paths. As such, we should see a Green status instead of the warning status.

Showing Connected status instead of always showing irrelevant warnings will always cause an issue for operations staff and can only possibly serve to potentially obscure actual connection issues that show up but the status might not change and alert the operations staff to an actual issue.
