This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Modify the CSM DSCLI for Z product such that the logs directory, and any other directory the product writes to, can be directed to another location than the product's install location, currently CSM_ProductionRoot/logs. This would be an environment variable or option specified on the DSCLI command line, a DD in invocation JCL or the like.
It is typical to install and customize the zOS sysres in a single location, then deploy its runtime filesystems to other sysplexes with no subsequent modification, especially in the case of zOS USS sysplex-shared version filesystems, which are mounted read-only, and replaced fresh with every sysres switch. This means that running SAMPLIB(IWNINST2) in every destination sysplex to redefine CSM_ProductionRoot to a writeable filesystem is less than ideal, and a bad practice in a modern business environment, especially for larger enterprises.
Redirecting the logs directory to another filesystem would effect separation of runtimes and log files, which is important with increased focus on security; and reduce software deployment effort.
