RPO Monitoring by using the CSM status

The RPO is monitoring in a CSM Global Mirror session by using RPO alerts, according to warning and severe level thresholds. When RPO warning level is reached an IWNR2751W message will be seen in the CSM console log, and when RPO severe level is reached an IWNR2752E message will be seen too.

But some customers consider such a CSM alert too verbose.

They would like the CSM session status to change based on the RPO alert level.

By using existing status or by dedicating new status, like “RPO high” and “RPO very high” or anything else.

Thanks for your message. I'd read in the CSM user's guide 6.3 : If the session goes beyond the severe threshold it will go to a severe status. But when the warning threshold is reached, i understood only an alert is generated; no mention of warning status. I’ll talk to the client when he comes back from vacation. Regards.

Thank you for the additional information Bruno. However, while the session state isn?t tied directly to the RPO thresholds, the session status is. If the session goes beyond the warning threshold the session will go into a warning status. And if it goes beyond the severe threshold it will go to a severe status. This is how you can tell when a particular session may be in ?trouble? without having to go to the individual sessions to see the detailed status message. I?m going to decline the request for now give the above information. However I?d be more than happy to have a deeper discussion if you feel this still doesn?t meet your needs.

Changing the status of the session due to high RPO would permit customer to realize there is a problem in one or more session in the synthetic view. Today we have to go in each session to check RPO.

Your offer is appreciated. A new value for the session could be acceptable, for instance: Normal_warning_RPO, and Normal_severe_RPO.

The current mechanism allows does allow for automation as well as visual notification when the RPO is higher than the thresholds set. Can you provide more information as to why this is not enough.

I don't think CSM will create a new "state" or "status" for RPO warning or RPO Severe alerts because the session state is the heart of how we determine what commands and events the session will handle. Adding additional RPO states which are technically the same as the Prepared state could potentially lead to added complexity and issues.

I might be willing to add a new value on the session strictly for RPO, with the RPO_NORMAL, RPO_WARNING, RPO_SEVERE values....this would be separate from the session state and status. However, I'm not sure I understand how this would be different than the current warning status alert we provide today. Please provide some more detail on the use case and the reason for the request.
